Apple’s iPhone 6 : The Aftermath

apple store

After Apple’s very secretive launch that is arguably the biggest event in the tech calendar every September, there are always a few things that happen in the days that follow. There is the obligatory new software release, the opening of the pre-orders, and the queuing of the fanatics. This year was no different, iOS 8, 4 million pre-orders, and 10 block long queues.

Apple have changed one thing this year though, 2 variants of the iPhone in one release. This leaves a lot of the queuing fanatics with a very troubling choice. Which one should I get. In true follower fashion though, the majority want the plus version, the so called flagship. The problem, however, is that there isn’t enough stock of the plus versions. Most stores are running out of them before they even get to open the doors on day 1.

In this case though, that might be a blessing. Photos have started showing up online of the iPhone 6 plus with a very peculiar story. They seem to have a weak spot just below the volume keys and are prone to bending in the pockets of their owners. Considering the hefty price tag on the flagship I’d say that there are going to be quite a few, very dissatisfied customers this time around.

Bending aside, it seems that the bigger screen iPhone is a major hit. They doubled their previous pre-order numbers. There are even a few surveys floating around staying that 1 in 4 iPhone 6 holders is an Android convert. Usually I would doubt numbers like that, but this time round I might believe it, because the main reason I didn’t want an iPhone was because I didn’t want to go from my ample screen real estate, to trying to read on a matchbox.

The other surprise from Apple was the watch. Behind the curve in the wearable tech sector, but it seems that it might just be what the Apple fans have been waiting for. There are no official sales figures out yet, but I’m sure that Steve Jobs would be quite pleased with the Apple bank balance this weekend. CEO Cook finally gave in to the needs of the many, and it seems to be paying off.
